Fifth Wheel Tester

Carnarvon Gorge tested not only the rig but our legs as well. The road in, was sealed halfway and the final 20 km was rough and dusty with cattle grids we had to creep over. We arrived safe, sound and with very little dust inside, not like our neighbours in a motor home who had to shake the dust out of their bed covers. The camping area was very green and fertile contrasting to the red dryness of the landscape on the main road. "That's an awesome trailer. Never seen anything like it." Said a camp ranger. This is a common response that we get as most people tow a caravan. A man came to tell us he had seen us back way back at Dubbo. So talk about the ins and outs of the trailer helps with the social side of our trip. The camp site was 5km from the gorge. "We'll incorporate that into our day hike." We would definitely have to take some junk food to provide us with enough energy for the day! It turned out we had an offer of a ride to the main walking track. The towering sandstone cliffs provided a stark backdrop to the gums, ferns, palms and she-oaks that line the streams and ponds. Six hours of walking- not bad for a couple of old chooks. And we didn't get lost. Well worn tracks make that impossible. Thankfully our friends ferried us back to camp. A kangaroo proceeded to help himself to our front lawn as we made our way past him to the campfire." I love the smell of burning wood, its fragrance is so clean and good." That must have come from my childhood education somewhere.
